Blowing Out Your Hundredth Candle

Posted by admin | Family Health, General Health | Saturday 21 March 2009 2:48 pm

How would you feel like blowing a hundred candles on your birthday cake? The event sure is monumental, having achieved living up to your centenary. Nowadays, only a very few number of elder people are achieving this milestone. They may be few but what could their secret/s be for achieving such a great feat? Is it in the food they eat? Their lifestyles maybe?

Research found out that one key to getting close to this is by spend time with your friends. A recent study of people over age 70 found that those with the strongest network of friends were 22 percent more likely to live past 80 than those with the weakest. Loneliness is linked to a greater risk of chronic disease, which may shorten your life. Living up to these ages doesn’t mean you can not have fun like your grandkids are having! Have a crochet-weekend or bake-sale with friends, or a scrabble-Sunday with your grandkids or go dancing at the clubhouse with neighbors.

When you have many friends, you’re more likely to do healthy things like exercise. You don’t have to be Ms. Social Butterfly, but try to have a few close pals you can turn to. Who knows, you’ll live up to your hundredth, too!

Hunger Attack

Posted by admin | Food and Nutrition, General Health | Monday 16 February 2009 5:09 pm

You pop on every pack of food you see around you at the slightest hint of hunger thinking that this technique might keep your hunger at bay for longer hours. But you can’t help it, you keep on eating that’s why you’re getting bigger than you like because you lack control. Don’t let food get the better of you. Instead, stand up to it and you control your intake.

Eat and eat often. Take this advice seriously: to control hunger, you need to eat often enough- about every four hours- so that hunger never goes completely off the charts. Unfortunately, more women are trying to severely restrict calories to lose weight. That backfires. You’ll just end up eating more. As we all know, when you’re ravenous, good nutrition judgment goes out the window. But if you’ve gone too long without food, reaching for a quick fix loaded with refined carbs, like a doughnut or a bag of chips, will make you hungrier.

Why? These foods cause blood sugar to soar, triggering a rush of insulin that will soon leave you starving. If you eat something healthier, say a chicken breast and some veggies, insulin is released more gradually, helping stave off another I-need-food attack for three or four hours.
Please pass the dessert.

Why W-O-R-R-Y?!

Women are argued to be very worrisome. Ask any husband and he’ll be more than willing to tell you how so much of a worrier his wife is! She worries too much when he’s not eating much like he used to- afraid that he might be sick or having problems he’s not telling her. Teenagers won’t stop blabbering about how their moms are either- worrying too much if they’re still out at night even if they know where they are going, who are with them, wondering if they are safe. It could be a case of a genetic make-up hardwired in every woman we know. And they’d be worrying at the first sign of wrinkles! Much more, ageing. But don’t they know, one of the biggest causes of stress for women is Worry with a capital W?!

You can’t eliminate it. But there’s productive worry and unproductive worry, and you can eliminate the latter. For example, being anxious that you’re going to miss your flight can speed you up and get you to the airport on time. But worrying the plane will crash? Useless. Labeling worries as unproductive won’t make them go away immediately- but it’s the first step in being able to let go.

Less Stress At Work

People get stressed so easily no matter where they are. But how can you eliminate stress at the office, specifically?

The best weapon against stress is organization. But no matter how organized you are and how well you plan, unexpected things happen. What do you do when someone throws a monkey-wrench into your well-oiled machine? Remember the 3 A’s. Assess the changes and figure out what needs to be done. Adjust your schedule and expectations to come up with a new plan. Act quickly and decisively to implement your new plan.

That or you can once a day, find a quiet spot- even if you have to go sit in your car. Turn off your cellular phone, close your eyes. Breathe slowly and deeply. With each inhalation, focus on the stress you’ve dealt with that day. As you exhale, release it completely. Relax and let your mind be still. If you spend just a few minutes each day being relaxed and present, you’ll lower your stress level substantially. Negative energy is toxic. People try to get rid of it by dumping it on someone else. Don’t spend time with negative people in the office. Keep a positive outlook and focus on solutions, not problems.

Peace out.

Private Issues Down There

Not all things that you think are in are healthy. For women, have you ever contemplated on having that piercing right in between your thighs? And you really think, sharing his razor is cool? They are vagina mistakes you don’t have to make because they will just hurt you.

Using a guy’s razor to shave your pubic hair is almost as bad as having sex without condom. If you have nicks or microscopic breaks in your skin, you can catch almost any infection he has.

Talking about getting that high-risk piercing… The high-absorbency tampons related to toxic shock syndrome (TSS) are now off the market. But TSS still occurs, mostly due to the genital-piercing trend. Vulvular piercings can introduce the strep bacteria into the system and lead to toxic shock. Get pierced only in the most sanitary facilities and for 48 hours afterward, be on the alert for TSS symptoms: inflammation of the piercing site, fever, dizziness, and confusion. If you have these problems following a piercing, get to an emergency room. TSS progresses quickly and can be deadly within as few as 48 hours.

Be wise enough with how you treat your privates down there. You don’t want to risk your primary health just because of what’s in or cool.
